Description:
Sioux City Fire Rescue (SCFR) department is an internationally accredited agency serving the citizens and
visitors of Sioux City since 1888. SCFR provides the highest level of professional service possible.
Our SCFR department has an opening for an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) EMT or AEMT who is
looking to be part of our successful team.
Based upon the current shift schedule, which includes overtime for hours worked more than the regular
workweek, the average annual wage for a starting EMT is up to $51,677. Opportunities to work additional
shifts/hours are occasionally available. Hours of work will vary; the division operates every day.
The position provides direct patient care and transport in the prehospital environment. Additionally, performs
non-emergency functions such as injury/illness prevention and other public safety activities.
EMTs will be required to have a valid Iowa EMT or AEMT Certification at start of employment yet will be given
reasonable consideration to obtain reciprocity (if certification is from another state) at the time of conditional
hire.
Candidates must pass a Civil Service testing process which also includes a physical agility test and an Oral
Examination prior to being placed on a Civil Service Eligibility List. Job offers are conditional and contingent
upon passing pre-employment physical screening (by physical therapist); urine drug screen; physical exam to
include lab work, pulmonary function screen, vision screen and audiogram; and a background check.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Must be able to obtain and possess a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License by employment start
date. Must be eligible to obtain an Iowa EMT Certification prior to date of hire. (see page 2)
EMT:
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS)
• Current State of Iowa EMT Certification, or National Registry EMT

Advanced EMT (AEMT):
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS)
• Current State of Iowa AEMT Certification, or National Registry AEMT
