Hiring rate based on nursing experience -- $23.400/hour minimum. Additional $3.00/hour facility differential for hours worked. Hours are flexible. 

Examples of Work
Perform patient care in a clinic or hospital setting in a correctional institution. Administer medications, transcribe and carry out doctor's orders, assess patients utilizing protocols, triage, respond to emergencies. Assist in moving inmate patients. Assists with inventory and ordering of supplies and medications.

Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: A current license in good standing to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Nebraska or authority based on the Nurse Licensure Compact to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Nebraska.

OTHER: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance. Will complete four to eight weeks of on the job training. Must submit to background security check. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the pre-employment medical examination and a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Department of Correctional Services' Pre-service Training Program.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of: nursing theory and practice; accepted standards of care; policies and procedures governing nursing care; sanitation and infection control standards, policies, and procedures; techniques of providing quality nursing care; standards for charting medical records; current medications, their uses and reactions; Nebraska regulations pertaining to nursing scope of practice.

Skill in: coordinating and providing nursing care.

Ability to: observe changes in the medical condition of patients and effectively communicate these changes to other nursing staff members and physicians; consult with clinical specialists; instruct others in patient care; maintain accurate medical records and write periodic reports; communicate effectively with medical professionals, direct care staff members, and other facility staff members; follow oral and written instructions in exact detail, maintain a helpful and empathetic attitude toward patients; participate on an interdisciplinary team; utilize sound and effective professional nursing judgment.
