Registered Nurse (RN)
Position Title: Registered Nurse
Department/Division: Nursing Center
Reports to: Director of Nursing
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) delivers care to residents while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
Essential Job Accountabilities
1. Provides Patient Care Services Utilizing the Nursing Process (50%)
- Consults and coordinates with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate resident care plans.
- Evaluates resident needs through ongoing assessment and revises care plans based on changes in condition.
- Interprets and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess resident conditions.
- Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies, ensuring proper maintenance.
- Provides clinical supervision to LPNs and CNAs.
- Performs additional nursing duties such as medication administration, treatment planning, Medicare charting, admissions and discharge documentation, and coordinating Care Plans.
2. Communicates Resident Healthcare Needs to the Appropriate Team or Provider (20%)
- Delegates and communicates resident care tasks to appropriate team members based on skill level and patient needs.
- Ensures accurate, concise documentation and reporting of residents' conditions with appropriate follow-ups.
- Facilitates resident and family education on health topics, disease prevention, and wellness programs.
3. Participates in Team Efforts to Achieve Business Goals, Quality Outcomes, and Customer Satisfaction (10%)
- Provides assistance to team members as required.
- Maintains regular and timely attendance.
- Participates in committees, councils, and performance improvement activities.
- Completes probation and annual skills/competency evaluations.
4. Practices Within Legal, Ethical, and Professional Boundaries (10%)
- Maintains expertise in nursing practices and serves as a role model by demonstrating positive team-based behaviors.
- Pursues professional growth through advanced knowledge and skills.
- Safeguards confidential information and ensures compliance with healthcare regulations.
5. Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned (10%)
- Contributes to the daily operations of the department as needed.
Job Specifications
Education and Licensure:
- Required Education: Graduate from an accredited, state-approved school of nursing.
- Preferred Education: None.
- Required Licensure: Current Mississippi RN license, MS 90-day temporary permit, or Compact state RN license.
- Preferred Licensure: None.
Experience:
- Required: None.
- Preferred: One (1) year of clinical experience in a nursing center setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact and educate residents, communicate effectively with healthcare staff, and lead a team.
- Knowledge of nursing practices, procedures, and healthcare regulations.
- Familiarity with medical equipment and instruments used in patient care.
- Proficiency in interpreting and executing healthcare provider orders.
- Strong resident/customer service orientation and cultural sensitivity.
- Preferred: Working knowledge of electronic medical records and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and reposition residents and equipment.
- Requires visual acuity, manual dexterity, and fine motor coordination.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to chemicals and patient care environments.
- Potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues (Category I tasks).
